Ooh, Ooh That Smell
Can’t you smell that smell?
I’ll give him one thing; Barack Obama has a seemingly endless supply of BS. Here is a big whiff of the latest pile that Obama is trying to shove under our noses:
Link
Had the reverend not retired and had he not acknowledged that what he had said had deeply offended people and were inappropriate and mischaracterized what I believe is the greatness of this country, for all its flaws, then I wouldn’t have felt comfortable staying there at the church.
An Obama spokeman was sure to clarify that Obama was not saying that Wright “expressed misgivings about his statements.”
Sen. Obama was clearly saying that were Rev. Wright not retiring, he would need to be assured that the reverend understood why what he had said had deeply offended people and mischaracterized the greatness of this country.
Sorry, but that is not what he clearly said. What he clearly said was that the reverend would need to retire AND acknowledge his offensive comments. It wasn’t a “one or the other” comment. It was an “all or nothing” comment.
Even his own spokeman can’t keep Barack’s BS straight.
So this leads one to believe that Obama has the ability to read minds as well as see into the future.
Wright retired before the scandal broke. Since then, Obama has flip-flopped from saying he never heard those sermons, to excusing those sermons, to condemning those sermons. And now we are supposed to believe that Obama and Wright got together in private, and Wright acknowledged his offensive speech to Obama, who was never there to hear any of it. And they evidently had that conversation months ago, before the good reverend retired and before the scandal hit.
Sure. I believe that, don’t you?
Now excuse me while I go clear out my nose.

It seems almost second nature for Barack Obama to want things both ways. Here’s a header from the Official Obama website.

His logo displays a rising sun, showing that Obama represents the dawn of a new era in American politics. But in the picture of Obama that sits right next to the logo has the sun shining down on him, showing that he is blessed by the light of God himself.
Even subconciously, Obama always wants to have his cake and eat it, too.

Bill Richardson wants a new job—Vice-President of the United States.
Both Clinton and Obama have been looking to get the Richardson endorsement since he dropped out of the race in the early days of January. However, despite the claim that his decision was based on Obama’s speech on race, Richardson’s Friday endorsement of the Illinois senator comes at a time when it is fairly certain Obama will recieve the Democratic nomination. With Florida and Michigan now all but out of the equasion, Obama is likely to maintain his lead in delegates and the popular vote. Cries that any Superdelegate vote to the contrary will tear the party apart fortells the inevitible future of the 2008 Democratic primary election.
Richardson has risked quite a bit with this job application. His ties to the Clintons go back to his days as U.N. Ambassador and Energy Secretary under President Bill Clinton, and as recent as watching the Super Bowl with the former president just last February. Hillary Rodham Clinton advisor James Carville has since likened Bill Richardson to Judas on Good Friday. Somehow, I don’t think the two Bills are going to be catching any Final Four games together any time soon. Richardson has placed all of his political clout on the table with this one.
The Richardson endorsement also comes at a time when people are starting to hint that Obama cannot beat John McCain in November. Like it or not, race is a factor in this presidential campaign cycle, and it has both helped and hurt Barack Obama. His lead over Hillary Clinton has been aided by 90% of the African-American vote, but his connection to the fiery rhetoric of Reverend Jeremiah Wright has brought tarnish to the luster of the political golden boy, and called into question his ability to win in the coming general election.
With race proving to be such a large factor, an Obama/Richardson ticket could be tough to beat. According to the U.S Census Bureau, Hispanics and African-Americans are the first and second largest minorities in the nation. And Bill Richardson could be just the man to take away any Hispanic votes that illegal immigrant amnesty advocate John McCain might recieve in November. If Richardson can deliver a 90% Hispanic vote to go along with Obama’s 90% black vote, then Barak Obama will be the next President of the United States.
And I doubt I’m the only one who knows that.
UPDATE: As I was saying…

I just look at the speech! I have got that “gut feeling” it never fails!
I’ve got a feeling in my gut, too, Jesus. But I doubt it’s the same as yours.

The recent steroid scandal that has rocked Major League Baseball has called into question the ethics of those in the highly competitive, and highly lucrative world of professional sports. But cheating in sports is nothing new. From baseball, to football, to motor sports, cheating scandals have made the news for years, with the guilty parties often going on to win championships, coveted titles, and lots and lots of money. Players, coaches, and entire teams-it seems there is some form of cheating going on at every level. Sports organizations and associations give out almost meaningless punishments, and it has gotten so bad that the federal government is beginning to get involved. However, public outrage at these acts of deception is intermittent at best, and tends to disappear during the off-season as we shower our champions with praise, glory, and ever-increasing amounts of money. What does our acceptance of this unethical behavior in professional sports say about the values of the American public? The record-breaking seasons and salaries that these sports continue to enjoy show that we care less about honesty than we do about winning. As a result, many involved in professional sports will continue to cheat for as long as they can get away with it.

You gotta love it!
(H/T: Gateway Pundit)
“Heavy Metal in Baghdad”
Heavy Metal in Baghdad is a feature film documentary that follows the Iraqi heavy metal band Acrassicauda from the fall of Saddam Hussein in 2003 to the present day. Playing heavy metal in a Muslim country has always been a difficult (if not impossible) proposition but after Saddam’s regime was toppled, there was a brief moment for the band in which real freedom seemed possible. That hope was quickly dashed as their country fell into a bloody insurgency. From 2004-2007, Iraq disintegrated around them while Acrassicauda struggled to stay together and stay alive, always refusing to let their heavy metal dreams die. Their story echoes the unspoken hopes of an entire generation of young Iraqis.

An Army recruiting station in New York City was bombed this morning. Here is how Reuters covered this act of domestic terrorism:
Link
Small explosion hits New York’s Times Square
NEW YORK (Reuters) – A small explosion damaged a U.S. military recruiting station but caused no injuries in New York’s Times Square before dawn on Thursday, triggering a Pentagon alert for other stations across the country.
…
Low-grade explosives packed in an ammunition box cracked the recruiting station’s thick glass door and twisted its metal framing, police said. The blast also shattered a window encasing the classic poster of Uncle Sam saying “I Want You.”
…
Police Commissioner Ray Kelly showed reporters a security camera video of the blast and said police were looking into similarities to small explosions at the British and Mexican consulates in 2005 and 2007, also in the early morning hours.
It is not until the bottom of page 2 that we get this:
The bomb was larger than those used in the grenade attacks on the British and Mexican consulates, Kelly said. He said it could have caused injury or even death.
And here is the story from MSNBC:

Police probe cyclist link in Times Square blast
No injuries in pre-dawn attack on military recruiting station
NEW YORK – A small bomb caused minor damage to a landmark military recruiting station in the heart of Times Square before dawn Thursday, and police were searching for a hooded bicyclist seen on a surveillance video pedaling away.
And from Time.com…
Link
Does New York Have a Serial Bomber?
Though the attack resulted in no injuries and minimal damage, it raised unsettling concerns: chiefly, that it could be connected to two prior bombings with similar hallmarks. Last October, a device containing explosive powder was lobbed over the fence at the Mexican consulate, located just a few blocks southeast.
…
The city quickly regained its equilibrium. Streets reopened and subway service was restored. “New York City is back and open for business,” Bloomberg said. Even tourists at the scene — holding cameras aloft and chattering on cell phones — seemed largely unruffled by the incident. “I do feel quite safe still,” says Sandra Bell, a tourist on vacation from Glasgow, Scotland. Still, she says, standing just yards from the spot where she’s often watched the iconic ball descend to herald each New Year, “it’s amazing to think something would happen here.” [ed: Yeah, because nothing bad ever happens in NYC, right?] As uniformed military personnel ducked in and out of the recruiting office, the poster of Uncle Sam maintained his familiar pose — eyes fixed on prospective recruits, index finger outstretched, issuing his trademark beckoning call: “I Want You.” But to Damian Brown, 31, peering at the scene from across the street, the blast conveyed the opposite message. “Time to bring those boys home,” he says quietly.
Fair and balanced.

Here’s some more BS I learned at university.
Today in Cultural Anthropology we recieved a handout entitled “Race.” It included 10 points about racism in America. Here is #8:
Race justified social inequalities as natural. As the race idea evolved, white superiority became “common sense” in America. It justified not only slavery but also the extermination of Indians, exclusion of Asian immigrants, and the taking of mexican lands by a nation that professed a belief in democracy. Racial practices were institutionalized within American government, laws, and society.
Now, I have no problems accepting all of that as fact. That is, all of it but the bolded part.
Race had nothing to do with America acquiring lands from Mexico. Mexican land was acquired because of the Mexican-American War, which ended with US troops occupying Mexico City. In return for the troops leaving Mexico and bringing the war to an end, the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo was signed. In that treaty, Mexico agreed to give up the lands of California, Nevada, Utah, and New Mexico. In return, the US would assume the debt of Mexico owed to US citizens, and pay the country of Mexico $15 million, which was half the price offered by the US before the war began.
And who was it that started the Mexican-American War? It was Mexico, who in the words of President Polk “invaded our territory and shed American blood upon American soil.”
Thank goodness I’m a History major.

Michelle Obama has finally spoken the truth about the state of America.
(H/T: JammieWearingFool)
Obama begins with a broad assessment of life in America in 2008, and life is not good: we’re a divided country, we’re a country that is “just downright mean,” we are “guided by fear,” we’re a nation of cynics, sloths, and complacents.
You’ve got that right, Mrs. Obama!
we’re a nation of cynics
You mean the cynics who won’t accept the fact that we are actually winning the war in Iraq?
sloths
You mean like all of those poor folks who your husband wants us to buy medical insurance for?
and complacents.
You mean like those people who say we are not threatened by terrorists because we haven’t been attacked in over 6 years?
Yeah, you’ve hit the nail on the head, Michelle. America is indeed full of those people. They are the same people your husband panders to daily. They are the same people who I see wearing shirts and buttons with your husband’s face on them. And they are the same people who will be voting for him in November.
No wonder she’s so proud.

So this is what Hugo Chavez has been doing with his CITGO tax breaks?
(Link)
Colombia: Evidence suggests Chavez gave FARC $300M
(CNN) — Evidence found in computers seized in a raid over the weekend suggests that Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez recently gave the leftist Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia $300 million, Colombia’s national police chief said Monday.
If he has money like that to give to terrorists that kidnap civilians, then he doesn’t deserve his 6% savings on his US taxes.
(H/T: Michelle Malkin)
The tax package (HR 5351), which passed 236-182, repeals subsidies for five major oil and gas companies to offset $13.7 billion of the $18.1 billion in renewable-energy tax breaks contained in the bill.
Meanwhile, Citgo Petroleum Corp. would continue to receive a 6 percent deduction for domestic manufacturing that the largest firms would lose.
Our Democratic Congress at work.

Because Matt over at Blackfive asked. The soldiers in Afghanistan often refer to this area of operations as the forgotten front and after the recent news story run by the New York Times and after all of the hullabaloo coming from the news of Prince Harry’s deployment to that AO, and now followed by his sudden apparent departure maybe it is time to show the guys and gals in Afghanistan some attention.
Our paratroopers are in the fight of their lives and they need to hear that America loves them.
